Educational use only. Know Your Rights provides general educational information about rights and responsibilities during traffic stops in the United States. It is not legal advice and does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and the app or any lawyer listed in the directory.

No guarantee of outcome. The app cannot guarantee any result during a traffic stop or any legal proceeding. Every encounter is different, and outcomes depend on many factors outside the app's control.

Laws vary and change. Traffic and recording laws differ by state and can change over time. State-specific content is a general summary, not a complete statement of the law. Verify current law with a qualified attorney in your state.

Sources of legal information. The legal information in this app is compiled from publicly available sources, including the United States Constitution (particularly the First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendments), landmark Supreme Court of the United States decisions (such as Terry v. Ohio, 392 U.S. 1 (1968); Rodriguez v. United States, 575 U.S. 348 (2015); and Pennsylvania v. Mimms, 434 U.S. 106 (1977)), and state statutes governing audio and video recording consent. The app's content is a plain-language summary of these legal authorities and is not a verbatim reproduction of statute text. State-specific summaries reflect general legal principles and recording consent classifications (one-party vs. all-party consent) drawn from state legislatures and state court rulings. The app does not pull data in real time from any government database, and summaries may not reflect the most recent legislative amendments, court decisions, or local ordinances. For the official, current text of any law, consult the relevant state legislature's website, the U.S. Constitution, or a licensed attorney.

Do not resist or obstruct. You must follow lawful physical instructions from law enforcement. Do not use this app to resist, flee, obstruct, or physically interfere with law enforcement. If you believe your rights were violated, address it later through legal channels.

Recording. Recording laws vary by state. You are responsible for complying with applicable law when recording. The app stores recordings on your device by default and does not upload them unless you choose to share.

Lawyer directory. Bar verification and paid placement are separate systems. A "Sponsored" or "Paid recommendation" label indicates paid placement and is not a guarantee of qualification. A listing is not an endorsement.

Subscriptions. Premium subscriptions, where offered on iPhone and Android, are billed through Apple App Store and Google Play under their respective terms. You can manage or cancel your subscription through those platforms.

No responsibility for officers' actions. The app, its developers, and providers are not responsible for the actions, decisions, or conduct of law enforcement officers or any government agent. The app does not control, influence, or guarantee how an officer will respond during a traffic stop or any encounter. Any actions taken by law enforcement are solely the responsibility of the officer and their agency. The app is a tool for education and documentation only and cannot prevent or alter officer behavior.

Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the app and its providers are not liable for damages arising from your use of or reliance on the app, including but not limited to actions taken by law enforcement, legal outcomes, or any consequences of following or not following the information provided.
